Charles “Chuck” Bogosta
President
Bogosta Enterprises, LLC
Chuck Bogosta was most recently the Executive Vice President of UPMC, a $31B academic medical center and integrated delivery and finance system (IDFS) headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA. Over his 26-year tenure at UPMC, Bogosta held multiple executive roles, including President of UPMC International, President of UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, President of UPMC’s Strategic Business Initiatives, LLC (now UPMC Enterprises, UPMC’s innovation and investment arm) and Chief Operating Officer of UPMC Physician Services Group. In the case of UPMC International, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and Strategic Business Initiatives, Bogosta served as the first President and part of the team that founded each of these business units.
Bogosta also has held an appointment at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) since 2000 (and now as a consultant), having served as the Chief Financial Officer for the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, among other university roles.
Prior to joining UPMC and Pitt, Bogosta held executive positions in healthcare start-up companies including, Corporate Health Dimensions (a firm specializing in healthcare contracting services, which was sold to Swiss RE) and Health Enterprises Management (an ambulatory services, imaging and practice management company that was sold in parcels to several organizations). Prior to that, Bogosta’s university experience included mid-level positions in Student Affairs.
Most noteworthy are his leadership skills in the following capacities:
- As President of UPMC’s Hillman Cancer Center, he led a team that developed and operated the largest distributed network of cancer centers in the world. His team built the cancer program from its infancy to a global network with 75 sites and $1.5B in revenue. Bogosta also pioneered the concept of service line management across UPMC and Pitt with all oncology services across both organizations reporting to one management team. This service line approach not only has become a model for other service lines within UPMC but for other cancer programs nationwide.
- As President of UPMC International, he had the unique opportunity to lead a team that developed the largest footprint of owned and operated hospitals and clinics (and related services such as IT consulting) outside of the U.S. UPMC developed a presence in Italy, Ireland, Croatia, Qatar, United Kingdom, India, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Colombia and China, including hospitals, cancer centers and specialty clinics and sports medicine clinics.
- As President of UPMC’s Strategic Business Initiatives, he led the development of UPMC’s equivalent of a private equity group focused on investing in and incubating companies in the digital innovation, biotech and translational science areas, successfully bringing transformation to UPMC followed by the launch of many commercial entities.
In each case, his team’s innovative approach to health care delivery models provided experienced leadership, has transformed the way care is delivered, and ensured high quality and cost-effective services, enhancing the patient and employee experience.
Bogosta currently serves on many international and domestic healthcare-related Boards of Directors and has been Chairman or President of several of the Boards. He also has significant experience presenting to Boards and Committees of Boards.
In 2022, Bogosta was the recipient of the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) International Healthcare Leadership Award. This award honors a leader whose commitment, values and contributions have made a significant and positive impact on the provision of healthcare across international borders.
Bogosta earned a B.A. in business economics from the State University of New York, an M.A.in educational administration from Bowling Green State University and an honorary doctorate of humane letters from the State University of New York.
